Why does ice float? Can you turn a pencil into a diamond? In this section, examples of the relationship between physico-chemical properties and crystal structure are presented for sodium chloride, diamond and graphite carbon, quartz and ice. Models from the Chemistry Department’s teaching collection and crystalline samples of materials are on display.
